TRAUMA INFORMED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS

TRAUMA INFORMED TRAINING FOR TEACHERS

According to the National Center for PTSD, about 6 of every 10 men and about 5 of every 10 women have experienced at least one trauma in their lives. That means half of the students in our average yoga class are affected by trauma, and while many yoga instructors are aware of the negative implications trauma has, a lot haven’t received any instruction. Trauma informed practices benefit all students and can be a universal approach that's easier to implement than you think. This workshop will provide the latest research on how trauma affects the brain and behaviors, how to create a safe and trauma aware yoga class to prevent triggers, and how to implement trauma informed instruction so we can best respond if challenges may arise. This is a hands-on, collaborative, and activity based workshop so come ready to move, talk, and take home strategies you can implement tomorrow.

About your teacher:

Sarah Sherman received her 200 hr YTT from Core Power Yoga in San Diego during a difficult time in her life and it has become her own natural medication to stay balanced and grounded. With a career in education and serving under-privileged communities for 20+ years, Sarah's natural next steps were to bring yoga into inner city schools, to military vets, and to parks and breweries all around the country. Upon moving to NH, she found her true passion with Yoga In Action (formerly SATYA). There she has been teaching an Empower Yoga class in partnership with Haven for women survivors of sexual or physical violence and also taught Yoga for Recovery for 2 years. This prompted her to get an advanced graduate degree in Trauma Informed Practices and Policies. She's been sharing her experience and insights offering workshops to teachers and yoga instructors in the community for years. Seeing the transformation these students make, the way they keep showing up to their mat even when they have a million reasons not to and even when it can be physically/emotionally challenging, is an honor to witness. Her creative flow and experience working with such diverse populations of clients allows Sarah to read her student's needs and deliver a class everyone gets something out of. When she's not working in schools or teaching yoga, she's hiking, skiing, traveling, and being on the water with her family.
